Hello Ms. Kong, An example is given on page 335 and an exercise which demonstrates this issue clearly is 24 of chapter 6.3. In the case of the example on 335, we see $y=C_{1}e^{-x}+C_{2}e^{x}+C_{3}xe^{x}+C_{4}x^{2}e^{x}+C_{5}sinx+C_{6}cosx. In this example, we see that terms 3 through 6 (which are the most "complicated" of the solution) belong to the particular solution, $y_{p}$. In general, are the most "complicated" attributed to the nonhomogeneity or is the selection of terms which belong to $y_{p}$ done by inspection (which I believe to be the case)? Best, Aaron
