$$ \det(A) = \sum_{j = 1}^{n} (-1)^{i + j} a_{ij} \det(\tilde{A}_{ij}) $$ where $A$ is an $n \times n$ matrix, $i$ is set to the row used for cofactor expansion, $a_{ij}$ is the $i, j^{\text{th}}$ entry of $A$ and $\tilde{A}_{ij}$ is the matrix obtained by removing the $i^{\text{th}}$ row and $j^{\text{th}}$ column from $A$.
